firm is pleased to announce that Erica Dorsey, one of our patent attorneys, has
been elected to be the President of the Connecticut Intellectual Property Law
Association (CIPLA) for the term running from June 2015 until June 2016. Erica
previously held the title of Vice President with the organization. CIPLA was
originally founded in 1946 as the Connecticut Patent Law Association to promote
a standard of ethics within the profession of patent attorneys. In 2001, the
association changed its name to the CIPLA to broaden its scope and recognize the
relationship between patent law and other fields of intellectual property law.
The association now has approximately 150 members who meet on a regular basis
continuing the associations goals of promoting a standard of ethics and
professionalism among its members. We expect Erica to continue to provide strong
leadership for the organization and its efforts to place a high level of focus
on IP related issues that have an impact not only in the US but overseas.
Erica is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Civil and
Environmental Engineering and Suffolk University, where she obtained her JD.
Erica has significant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent
applications, as well as preparing infringement, invalidity, and patentability
opinions for a variety of national and international clients. Her practice is
focused primarily on mechanical, electromechanical, and related technologies,
including software and consumer products. Erica (near left) also has time to
enjoy out of office time with clients supporting charitable events including
this recent Fairfield County Bar Foundation golf outing in support of The Carver
Foundation of Norwalk.
